20th anniversary of the capital

The celebration of the 20th anniversary of the capital will be held from 6 July to 31 December this year.

Recall that since December 10, 1997 the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan was declared Akmola — the current city of Astana. The official presentation of the new capital of Kazakhstan took place on 10 June 1998.

The day of the capital - July 6-is the state holiday of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of Astana becoming the capital. Over the past 20 years, the city's population has increased by more than 3.5 times and is more than 1 million people. During this period, the territory of the capital has expanded from 258 sq km to 800 sq km.

At the moment, Astana is an established administrative, socio-economic and political center of Kazakhstan. The capital of Kazakhstan represents the socio-economic and political success of our country during the years of independence, demonstrates the growing power of the country and the high potential for its further development. Today, the capital is the flagship of all positive initiatives and reforms in Kazakhstan. Astana gives impetus to development, is the center of attraction for all regions of the Republic.
