A mass bike ride will take place in Astana on May 7

On May 7, a mass bike ride dedicated to Victory Day will take place in Astana, reports the official website of the Astana city akimat.

Participants in the bike ride will start from the Saltanat Saray territory at 9:00 and continue along the street. Kabanbay Batyr to Astana Arena Square. The bike ride finishes on the territory of the republican cycling track “Saryarka”.

Bicycle rental points will be organized at the start; in addition, those who wish can use Astana Bike bicycles, the three nearby stations of which will be fully equipped. Registration of participants will begin at 8:00.

Famous Kazakh athletes plan to take part in the bike ride. And cyclists are already calling on Astana residents to switch to bicycles.

“Dear friends, come to the bike ride, which will take place on May 7 in honor of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. Let's open the cycling season and express our gratitude to our veterans. Gathering at 9 a.m. on May 7 at Saltanat Saraya,” says Alexander Vinokurov, general manager of the Astana Pro team, which will start on May 6 at the first Grand Tour of the season, the Giro d’Italia.

“It’s always nice to see that cycling is becoming more and more popular every year in our country. And such massive bike rides are proof of this. I invite Astana residents to take part in such a bike ride on May 7, dedicated to Victory Day,” says professional rider of the Astana Pro team, leader of the Kazakhstan national team Alexey Lutsenko, who is preparing to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

It is noted that this action is aimed at attracting the population to active sports and a healthy lifestyle, promoting cycling as an environmentally friendly mode of transport, road safety, expressing appreciation and gratitude for the great feat of our veterans during the Great Patriotic War and will serve as the beginning of the 2016 cycling season The organizers are the Kazakhstan Cycling Federation and the Akimat of Astana.
