Cycling Day!

31.05.2019

Cycling is generally understood to begin on May 31, 1868, when the first 2,000 meters bicycle race was held at the Park of Saint-Cloud, Paris. It was won by the Englishman J. Moore.

Bicycles then still had wheels of various sizes (they were also called “high”), when a little more than 15 years remained until the pneumatic tire invention. However, the competition was so much enjoyed by the participants that next year the first Paris-Rouen international road-cycling 120km races took place, in which J. Mour finished with triumph once again. Even two women participated in the races.

In 1875, the world speed record was set for a “high” bicycle at 34 km/h. A year later, the first unofficial world record was set for a trip distance of 25,508 kilometers in 1 hour. Frenchman Desgrange established the official record in this sport at 32,325 kilometers in 1893.

Since then, more than 100 years have passed: athletes are divided into professionals and fans, several world records have long been established, bicycles are equipped with all types of devices and may perform various jumps or tricks. However, interest in the bicycle and this sport shows no fall.

Today, the most prestigious bicycle race, to which any athlete seeks to get, is the “Tour de France”, which has been held since 1903.

Cycling attracts with its dynamism and availability. This is one of the most environmentally friendly, healthy and interesting sports.

We remind you that the Saryarka Velodrome has opened cycling section for those who want to enjoy it.
