The National Basketball Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan announces the holding of an international sports event. For the first time in Kazakhstan, as part of the qualifying round of the 2019 Basketball World Cup, the national team of Kazakhstan will play against the national team of Iraq.

The 2019 Basketball World Cup is the 18th Basketball World Cup among men's national teams, held under the auspices of the International Basketball Federation (hereinafter referred to as FIBA). The tournament was postponed from 2018 to 2019. In addition, the number of participants has increased to 32 (at the previous World Championships - 24). According to the voting results of the FIBA commission members, it was determined that the tournament will be held in China. 80 national teams from four geographical zones participate in the qualification process:

- Africa (5 places) џ America (7 places)

- Asia/Oceania (7 places)

- Europe (12 places)

China, as the host country, qualified for the championship automatically, but at the same time, participates in the Asian qualification selection. Teams that are not among the top 16 on their continent (32 for Europe) play in Division B. The best teams in this division receive the right to play play-off matches with the teams that finished fourth in the first round of Division A for the right to participate in Division A in the next qualifying round.

Asian qualification

There are 16 teams participating in the Asian qualification, which in the first round are divided into four groups of four teams in each group. Within the framework of their groups, teams play in two rounds, one game at home and one away. According to the results of the first round, the teams that took the last places in their groups are eliminated. The remaining 12 teams advance to the second round, where they will be divided into two groups. Following the results of the second round, the top 7 teams, as well as China, go to the 2019 Basketball World Cup.

The national team of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The Kazakhstan men's national basketball team is a national basketball team representing Kazakhstan in the international basketball arena. Ensuring the preparation of the national team for international competitions is the task of the National Basketball Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The team was formed and joined FIBA Asia in 1993 and was given the opportunity to compete in the Asian Basketball Championship.

The national team of the Republic of Iraq

The Iraq Men's National Basketball Team is the national basketball team representing Iraq in the international basketball arena. Ensuring the preparation of the national team for international competitions is the task of the Iraqi Basketball Association. The team was formed and joined FIBA in 1948 and was given the opportunity to compete in international basketball tournaments.
