Kazakhstan national team goes to Winter Youth Olympic Games today

Nur-Sultan, January 6 - Today the official seeing-off of the Kazakhstan national team to the III Winter Youth Olympic Games took place in the capital, which will be held from January 9 to 22 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the coaching staff and the young athletes themselves took part in the solemn event.

At the upcoming Games, Kazakhstan will be represented by 27 athletes (15-18 years old) in 9 sports. The opening and closing ceremonies of the Games will be held in the world Olympic capital of Lausanne, where the Olympic Village will also be located on the territory of the University of Lausanne.

“The Youth Olympic Games are an excellent opportunity to feel the atmosphere and spirit of a great sports event. I think this experience will undoubtedly be useful to you in the future. Because it is you who are the closest reserve of the national teams of Kazakhstan, ”said Elsiyar Kanagatov, Director of the Sports Directorate of the NOC RK.

At the official farewell ceremony, the flag of Kazakhstan was presented to the 18-year-old short tracker Sanzhar Zhanisov, the winner of the III Winter Youth Games of the country. He also spoke on behalf of the athletes.

As a reminder, the III Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne will be held from January 9 to 22, 2020. 1880 athletes from 70 countries at the age of 15-18 will take part in the upcoming competitions. The Games program is presented in 16 sports.

We add that at the previous Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016 in Lillehammer, Norway, Kazakhstani athletes won four medals: one silver and three bronze medals. The silver medal in the mixed team speed skating competition went to Anvar Makhamadeev. "Bronze" in figure skating was won by Elizabeth Tursynbaeva, biathlete Arina Pantova became the third in the sprint distance of 6 km, and Anita Nagai brought another bronze medal to the Kazakhstan national team in mixed team short track competitions.
