From 18 to 19 May, an international competition in cycling on the track "Silk Way Series Astana" CL1 was held at Nur-Sultan on the Republican cycle track "Saryarka". Riders from 12 countries took part in the tournament. Athletes competed in 5 types of disciplines: Madison, Keirin, Omnium, scratch and group points race.

According to the results of the competition, Kazakhstan cyclists won 7 medals of various denominations.

The first to prove themselves today were Artem Zakharov and Sultanmurat Miraliyev, who won in Madison. The second place was won by athletes from the Celestial Empire Gou Lyang and Shen Pinyan. Bronza from another Kazakhstani team, Alisher Zhumakan and Roman Vasilenkov.

In the scratch race, Ilart Zouzubiskar from Spain climbed to the highest step of the podium. Uzbek rider Andrei Izmailov lost to the winner in the last meters of the final straight, finishing second. Closed the top three winners Shen Pinyan from China. Kazakhstani Nikita Panasenko, Alisher Zhumakan, Azen Gabiden and Johann Stein took fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth places, respectively.

The next set of medals was won in omunim among women. According to the results of four types: scratch, tempo race, knockout race and points race, there was no equal Chinese Xiaofei Wang. Silver medal went to compatriot Zhiali Liu. Closed the top three Olivia Baleishite from Lithuania. Rinata Sultanova became the best player in Kazakhstan, which showed the fifth result.

A serious "disassembly" occurred in the sprint form "keirin". Pavel Vorzhev won the gold medal, leaving no chance to his rivals. And one of them was the six-time Olympic champion from the UK, Jason Kenney. The second at the finish was the bronze medalist of the 2019 World Cup Russian Pavel Yakushevsky. Closed the top three best another Russian - Alexander Sharapov.

“It's very nice to win at home. I was set up for this race. I would not say that now I have the best physical form. Still, a competitive calendar is big. However, everything went fine. Yesterday I fell. However, the fall did not take me out of the rut. I knew that I would be in the top three, hoping for this result. As a result, it turned out to be able to correctly carry out the race, the rivals could not get ahead, ”Vorzhev announced.

In the women's keirin, the first two places were left to Russia. The best was Daria Shmeleva (Gazprom Rusvelo), Anastasia Voinova rose to the second step of the podium, the bronze was from Simona Krupetskka from Lithuania.

The final point of the competition "Silk Way Series Astana" was the men's group points race. Sultanmurat Miraliyev brought another gold medal to the piggy bank of the national team of Kazakhstan. Another athlete Asylkhan Turar finished behind him. Closed the top three best Ilart Zouuzubiskar from Spain.

Thus, our team has seven medals: three gold, two silver and two bronze. A day before, Roman Vasilenkov, who won the Omnium, brought the gold medal to the team, and Artem Zakharov won the silver medal in the same discipline.

It should be noted that "Silk Way Series Astana" is a rating tournament. All points won will go to a personal rating, which, by the way, allows you to qualify for the World Cup, as well as help in the fight for the Olympic license.
