Athletes from the Asian Championships returned with gold medals

This morning at the Astana airport, the athletes of the Kazakhstan national team from the 2017 Asian Championship were met on the highway by their relatives and numerous fans. The Asian Championship was held from March 24 to March 3, 2017 in the city of Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. Athletes from more than 40 Asian countries took part in the championship.

Athletes - students of the Republican State Enterprise "Olympic Training Center for Cycling" represented Kazakhstan in the junior category in the following composition:

  3. Pronsky Daniil
  4. Fedorov Evgeniy
  5. Kurnosova Marina
  6. Akhmetova Dana
Juniors competed in an individual time trial race (juniors-25.6 km, junior women-12.8 km) and a group road race (juniors-89.6 km, junior women-64 km).

The champion of Asia in the individual time trial among juniors was Kazakhstani Zhang Igor (born in 1999), who took first place with a result of 34:29.63 and his gap from second place was 1 minute. 09.23.

Marina Kurnosova (born in 2000) participated in the individual time trial among juniors from our country. With a time of 19:49.63, she took 2nd place, 20.46 seconds behind first place.

In the group race among juniors, Igor Zhang, Daniil Marukhin, Daniil Pronsky, Evgeniy Fedorov competed for the Kazakhstan team, who showed excellent results. The medal of the highest standard with a result of 2:10.31 went to Daniil Marukhin. Zhang Igor finished second at the same time as Marukhin D., fourth, with a lag of 0.17 seconds, was Evgeniy Fedorov, and fifth, with a lag of 0.87 seconds, was Daniil Pronsky.

In the group race among juniors, Kazakhstan was represented by Marina Kurnosova and Dana Akhmetova. With a result of 1:53.18, Kurnosova M. came in the lead and took 4th place, Akhmetova D. finished thirteenth with a lag of 0.84 seconds.
