Athletics is considered one of the oldest sports in history. Its origins trace back to Ancient Greece, where running and throwing competitions were part of the Olympic Games program from their inception in 776 BC.
Athletics encompasses running, throwing, jumping, and race walking. It is divided into several categories: sprints (short distances), middle and long distances, relays, long jump, high jump, pole vault, and throwing events (discus, javelin, shot put).
The 100-meter race is one of the most spectacular disciplines. Known as the "king of sprints," its results often signify the fastest people on the planet. The men's world record is held by Usain Bolt, with a time of 9.58 seconds (set in 2009), while the women's record belongs to Florence Griffith-Joyner, with a time of 10.49 seconds (set in 1988).
In athletics, the longest distance is the marathon, covering 42.195 kilometers. This ultimate test of strength and endurance became an Olympic sport in 1896.
At the Astana Olympic Training Center, a true sports reserve is being prepared: 98 talented and dedicated athletes in athletics actively participate in competitions at various levels. These athletes showcase exceptional professionalism and determination, competing on national and international stages.
